GODDESS CORNROWS
So back in the days when I was young, my mother was obsessed with cornrows like she had different patterns and designs for me to be plaited. Anytime I’m dropped at the salon, there’s a new design on my head. To make matters worse the salonist used to tie this thick black thread, I hated it with passion! I wanted to flaunt my long natural hair to those big bullies with short hair in class! Cornrows were my all-time hairstyle. Christmas was the only time I changed my style, imagine!! I’d either have my hair tonged or braided in colorful rubber bands (dabrat) and all swagged up in a hip-star suit ready to rock and roll . 90’s babies, can you relate to this? Y’ all were hippies’ at some point.
Cornrows have been trending lately and it’s popular among African ladies. It’s actually one of our trademarks. There are many types of cornrows; braided, bandika, crotchet, one’s natural hair and the list is endless. Some ladies want them thin, thick or medium. It all depends with an individual. My previous hairstyle was faux locs and it stayed for three months. Sigh! Once I undid the locs, I opted to do some goddess cornrows. When I’m in cornrows there’s just this feeling that grasps me and influences my whole look. To make your cornrows look fun and flirty; try different colors at the tips, try some Rapunzel length, add accessories and you could have you edges oiled to avoid hairline damage.
If you are planning to plait cornrows, one major thing you need to know is; it’s low maintenance that lasts for months and very pocket friendly. I know some are wondering how it lasts for months. Well, I just discovered if you plait cornrows with bandika braids; they last longer but it depends with one’s hair texture and how strong it is. Going for some vacay soon? Looking for a new hairdo? Opt for the cool fuss free cornrows!
Have a beautiful week humans!
